Can my item be engraved?

Yes. We engrave on the reverse of the steel medical alert plate.

Up to 3 lines with maximum of 25 characters per line

The engraving plate is there for the essential, critical information paramedics, first responders and potentially even members of the public or schools need in an emergency. In the event of an emergency, the universal medical alert symbol on the front of your bracelet will alert medics to vital information. The plate is easily flipped over to reveal the engraving.

We suggest you include:

  1. Your name
  2. Any CRITICAL medical conditions, allergies or drugs that might affect how you are treated in an emergency (such as blood thinners)
  3. An ICE contact number - preferably a mobile

ICE stands for 'In Case of Emergency'. Emergency Services are also trained to look for ICE contacts in your phone so make sure it's in there too. Both android and iPhones will allow access to ICE contacts even when the phones are locked.

Who is my bracelet named after?

Samuel Risien Russell – The First Black British Consultant

James Samuel Risien Russell was a Guyanese-British consultant physician and professor in Neurology. He began studying medicine in the 1880s at the University of Edinburgh and continued his postgraduate studies in London, Paris, and Berlin. In 1898, Russell became a resident medical officer at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

While working at the National Hospital, he completed research that contributed to our understanding of the Cerebellum (which is the lower part of the brain, which affects motor control). His research also contributed to our understanding of how vitamin deficiencies can damage the brain and spine.
Russell was a renowned neurologist, and in the early 1900s he set up his own medical practice which specialised in mental health. He also campaigned for Mental Health Law Reforms.

In 2020, the English Heritage approved a Blue Plaque to be attached to the site of his private practice on Wimpole Street.
